February 11 Henry looking to join period epic The Great Wall

Henry Cavill is still working hard as the eponymous man of steel in Zack Snyder’s new Superman film, but the Brit star must be enjoying a little downtime, because he’s eying his next project, period epic The Great Wall.

Edward Zwick, of The Last Samurai, is already in place as director, having written the screenplay with Marshall Herskovitz. It’s based on a story by World War Z scribes Max Brooks and Thomas Tull.

Plot details are light, but Variety report that the film will look into the mystery behind how China’s Great Wall was built in the 5th Century BC.

No word yet on who Cavill would play, though we assume he’ll get to fling a few fists in the process. With Zwick behind the camera we should definitely expect some action, not to mention beautiful period furnishings.

Cavill may still be pumping iron as Superman, but we won’t get to see the finished film until Man Of Steel opens on 14 June 2013.

August 27 Justice League Rumors

As everyone knows, Warner Bros. is doing their superhero team-up movie, but since it’s not even confirmed they will be using the same Superman actor (aka our Henry), let’s treat all “Justice League” news as rumors, okay?

The big talk right now is “who” is going to direct the movie. The name on the top of the Warner’s list was Ben Affleck, but he confirmed he’s not going to do it.

“I’m not working on the ‘Justice League.’ One of the problems with entertainment web sites is that they need to fill pages, and that’s how rumours get started. ‘Justice League’ sounds really exciting, but it’s not something I’m working on.”

Now Moviehole is suggesting that Andy and Lana Wachowski, the duo behind “The Matrix” trilogy, are another possibility on the Warner’s list, like The Playlist is pointing here.

November 20 Henry to be “Tarzan”?

A few days ago a short list has been released about the “Tarzan” remake that Warner Bros. has been working on. Henry Cavill, Sons Of Anarcy” star Charlie Hunnam, “True Blood” fang banger Alexander Skarsgard and “Dark Knight Rises” Tom Hardy was named to be meeting Yates to discuss the lead role.

But it seems the favorite of David Yates and Warner Bros. isn’t your Man of Steel, but Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård.

As Variety notes, there is no offer and a casting decision hasn’t been made so there’s still hope for those who want to see Henry as the King of the Jungle! So should this all come to pass, Skarsgård will play John Clayton III, who gets reassimilated into society only to be asked by Queen Victoria to investigate some strange things going on in the Congo. At his side? Civil War veteran George Washington Williams, a role that Samuel L. Jackson is being eyed for.

November 30 “50 Shades of Grey” Movie: Henry Cavill is out

The 50 Shades of Grey movie casting rumors recently got supercharged when Superman Henry Cavill commented on the possibility of playing Christian Grey. However, fans of E. L. James’ erotic novel probably won’t get to see Anastasia Steele being spanked by the Man of Steel star.

According to a Nov. 30 report by Entertainmentwise, Henry Cavill’s reps have already denied that he’s in talks for the role.

September 12 Unofficial: Henry Cavill Out as Superman

This news is still unofficial, but I thought I’d still post it here. It looks like we have seen the last of Henry donning the red cape as contract talks break down between Henry’s reps and Warner Bros.

HOLLYWOOD REPORTER – The DC cinematic universe appears to be losing its Man of Steel.

Henry Cavill, who has played Superman in three films, is parting ways with Warner Bros., sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. Though neither side is confirming, the British actor, who first donned the blue suit for 2013’s Man of Steel, and then starred in 2016’s Batman v. Superman and last year’s Justice League, is said to be hanging up the red cape.

Warners had been trying to enlist Cavill, who most recently co-starred in Mission: Impossible — Fallout, for a Superman cameo in Shazam!, which stars Zachary Levi and will bow April 5. But contract talks between Cavill’s WME reps and Warners broke down, and the door is now closing on other potential Superman appearances.

That’s because the studio has shifted its focus to a Supergirl movie, which will be an origin story featuring a teen superheroine. This effectively removes an actor of Cavill’s age from the storyline’s equation given that Superman, aka Kal-El, would be an infant, according to DC lore.

Furthermore, Warners isn’t likely to make a solo Superman film for at least several years, according to another source. “Superman is like James Bond, and after a certain run you have to look at new actors,” says a studio source. As such, Cavill will join Ben Affleck, who isn’t expected to reprise his role for director Matt Reeves’ forthcoming Batman stand-alone film, as a hero on the way out.

A Warners source says the Shazam! deal fell apart because of scheduling conflicts. And that is backed up by the fact that Cavill recently signed on to star in the Netflix series The Witcher. However, another source says that the Witcher commitment came after the Warners impasse, suggesting a change in Warners’ strategy.

“There’s a recognition that some parts of the previous movies didn’t work,” says the studio insider. Another source says Warners is trying to hit a “reset” button with the DC universe, steering its ship slowly into another direction.
