We don’t know much about Henry’s relationship with Ellen Whitaker, unless she gives some interviews and talks about it – he’s more private about it, which I really appreciate. She did an interview last week to London Evening Standard, and apparently, Henry was there while she was being interviewed. On this interview she talks a little about him.
When asked about the proposal, Whitaker says almost apologetically: “I’d rather not talk about it. But it feels good and I’m very happy.” That much is clear as Whitaker, sitting with Cavill at her side for the duration of our interview, talks about her life with the Jersey-born actor, who first came to prominence in the Tudors television series.
Appropriately enough, the pair met in the horse world, at Olympia two years ago when he was watching her compete. “It’s a long story,” she recalls. “But we just got chatting and he bought me a drink and that was it.”
The big day is planned for next year although, with his filming schedule and her bid to qualify for London 2012, they may yet have their work cut out getting it in the diaries.
Cavill, though, has clearly already become part of the famous Whitaker family, which has been a dominant force in equestrian circles for decades.
“Everyone loves Henry,” is the latest of the Whitaker riding dynasty’s take on her actor fiance. “He’s just a really lovely guy. My family all warmed to him very quickly and I know they’re very proud of him and what he’s doing. There’s a few jokes about Superman at the dinner table but that’s only joking, really.
