Season Two of The Tudors to Premiere Sept 30 on CBC

The dramatic history of England’s most infamous royal, King Henry VIII (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), returns in the Emmy®-nominated second season of THE TUDORS, premiering on CBC-TV, Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 9 p.m.

This season the stakes are high—the King becomes impatient with the Catholic Church after it seems unlikely to grant an annulment of his marriage to Queen Katherine (Gemini nominee Maria Doyle Kennedy). He appoints himself head of the Church of England, marries his beloved Anne Boleyn (Gemini nominee Natalie Dormer) in secrecy and declares his marriage to Katherine invalid.

Queen Anne soon gives birth to a daughter, Elizabeth, and like her predecessor, she knows that there will be far-reaching consequences if she does not produce a surviving male heir. Meanwhile, the King’s eye continues to wander, and to Anne’s discomfort and suspicion, Jane Seymour (Anita Briem) is made lady-in-waiting to the Queen. The Seymour family moves to Henry’s court and the wheels are set in motion for the beheading of King Henry’s second wife.

The second season of THE TUDORS features new cast members Peter O’Toole as Pope Paul III and Canadian David Alpay as Mark Smeaton, a musician in Henry’s court. Jeremy Northam and Henry Cavill return as Sir Thomas More and Charles Brandon.

Famed Canadian director Jeremy Podeswa (Fugitive Piesces, Dexter) directed the first and second episode of the season. Michael Hirst, writer and creator of THE TUDORS, also brought English history to life in the Academy Award®-winning feature films Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age.

The first season of THE TUDORS is nominated for 12 Gemini Awards, including Best Dramatic Series, Best Writing in a Dramatic Series and Best Costume Design. The Awards will be presented Friday, Nov. 28 at the Gemini Awards Gala in Toronto, Ont.

Produced by Toronto-based Peach Arch Entertainment in Association with CBC Television and Showtime Networks, THE TUDORS is presented in HD. Season three is currently in production in Ireland.

AfterElton.Com’s Hot 100

Henry came in at #82 on Elton John’s Hot 100 List!  Should’ve been higher in my opinion but I’m glad he’s being recognized now.

In need of money, they accept Wirth into their home. Wirth’s grand occult project seals the Wollners off from the rest of the world and makes them players in a horrifying game of survival.

The Tudors Greenlit for Another Season
History has repeated itself once again.  Showtime has given The Tudors a third season order just a few weeks after the show returned on the air for a sophomore run.  The drama series loosely based on the early reign of Henry VIII has significantly surged in the ratings, prompting the network to give an early renewal to the show just like it did when the network picked up the series for a second season order in the same month of its highly successful debut, which became the highest rated series premiere of the network in three years.

Meanwhile, the number of episodes has yet to be determined for the new season, which will follow the king as he weds third queen Jane Seymour (Anita Briem) and then Anne of Cleves, who is yet to be cast.

Town Creek + Laguna (Vendetta)

I have some information on some Henry projects, courtesy of Oh No They Didn’t.

A trailer has been released for Henry’s first movie Laguna. You can view it here until I get the chance to put it in the media archive. Its being released May 5th, 2008 on DVD.

In other news, Henry’s new movie has been renamed from Town Creek to just Creek.

First, there’s the possibility Midnight Meat Train’s moniker will be truncated. Now it appears Joel Schumacher’s Town Creek is simply being called Creek. That’s according to Lionsgate’s publicity site which recently made the change.

Dominic Purcell and Henry Cavill star in this film which finds a man and his brother who are on a mission of revenge and become trapped in a harrowing occult experiment dating back to the Third Reich. The studio has not set a release date. More information can be found here

Cavill Joins Allen Film

Henry Cavill has joined the cast of Woody Allen’s untitled romantic comedy, which has started production in Queens.

Cavill, known for his role as Charles Brandon, the Duke of Suffolk, on Showtime’s “The Tudors,” plays a man who is set up with Evan Rachel Wood’s character by her mother. Larry David also stars as Wood’s love interest.

The script, penned by Allen, is being kept under wraps. Allen also is co-starring and directing the Wild Bunch-funded film. His sister, Letty Aronson, and Stephen Tenenbaum are producing.
